Lakewood Ranch car burglary victims tell cops they left doors unlocked because they 'felt they were in a safe area'

MANATEE -- A rash of car burglaries was reported inside a Lakewood Ranch gated community Tuesday morning, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said.

Early Tuesday, several unlocked cars were broken into in the 8100 and 8200 blocks of Miramar Way, a media release said.

Two GPS systems, a CD player, and 10 CD's were stolen.

Five other residents also reported someone had entered their cars, but nothing was taken.

The car owners told authorities they left their vehicles unlocked because they "felt they were in a safe area," the release said.
