LAKEWOOD RANCH -- Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine today announced the planned opening of a new dental school in 2012.
The school, which will be located just north of the current LECOM campus on Lakewood Ranch Boulevard, will enroll 100 first-year students when it opens. Within four years, there will be 400 students, officials said.
Construction of the $52 million school will start in March.
Eric Basinger, executive director of the Manatee County Economic Development Council, said LECOM will receive $203,000 in incentives over four years, including a 50 percent reduction in impact fees. Officials expect the project will create a minimum of 58 new jobs.
