Jessica Brewster has been named Employee of the Month for July by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
Brewster worked to find help for a drug-addicted juvenile with possible ties to human trafficking, according to the sheriff’s office.
Brewster built a rapport with the child who spoke about friends posting on Facebook about adults taking children to Miami and using them for prostitution. She convinced the child to provide her Facebook log-in to locate these children and identify any adults.
The report said Brewster’s investigative efforts resulted in her being able to identify four girls as well as adults who were involved. She located other children and convinced two to disclose they were victims of human trafficking. Brewster was able to arrange treatment for one victim’s drug addiction and additional services as a victim of human trafficking.
As a result of Brewster’s hard work and dedication to helping children, the victims are now getting services they need and law enforcement is investigating charges against the adults involved, according to the release.
