Bradenton Herald reporting nets three awards from Society of Professional Journalists

Bradenton Herald journalists took home awards in three categories Saturday at the Society of Professional Journalists Florida Pro Chapter’s 2016 Sunshine State Awards at the Firefighters Memorial Building in Miami (map).

The awards included:

Breaking news reporting (small newspaper): Third place, Bradenton Herald reporters Jessica DeLeon, Richard Dymond, Kate Irby and Meghin Delaney for “The Death of Janiya Thomas: Exposing What Went Wrong.”

Beat reporting community: Second place, Bradenton Herald reporter Amaris Castillo for community coverage of Anna Maria Island.

Beat reporting minority issues: Third place, Bradenton Herald reporter Claire Aronson for “Making a difference for a minority community.”
