Interstate 75 in North Port reopened after crash

Northbound Interstate 75 in North Port has been reopened, after it was closed because of a traffic crash that injured one person, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The single-vehicle crash, which was reported at at 8:37 a.m., happened at mile marker 183, which is just north of the Sumter Boulevard interchange, according to the FHP website. As of 11:30 a.m., the website reported that the lanes had been re-opened.

The crash happened when a 24-year-old truck driver veered off the roadway and onto the east shoulder. He swerved left to re-enter the highway, but he overcorrected and lost control of the truck, according to a news release.

The truck rotated clockwise and overturned onto its right side, FHP said.

Troopers said the driver was not injured, but his 51-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries and was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital in North Port for treatment.

The driver was cited for careless driving.
