New Associate Pastor the Rev. Neil Crowell will be ordained at the 10 a.m. service Sunday, June 26, at Roser Church.
Ordained pastors are commissioned by the church in three areas of service: word, sacrament and order.
Roser Church appointed a Board of Ordination to prepare Crowell, who was required to be proficient in 40 doctrines. This is important in a church such as Roser where so many different denominations are represented, according to the press release.
Crowell also must be proficient in teaching and preaching the Word. He was required to preach from a text the committee selected, and produce a comprehensive study of the New Testament book of Philippians.
Throughout the history of the Christian Church, no one can be ordained except by those already ordained. This “Apostolic Succession” means every pastor can stand in solidarity with Crowell and the original apostles.
The Rev. Mark Clontz, senior pastor of Bethel United Methodist Church in Midland, N.C., will preach the ordination sermon and to lead the ordination service. Clontz is a good friend, brother in Christ and mentor for Crowell. Clontz and the Revs. Staal and Bob O’Keef, pastor of Roser Church will also participate. All Roser’s former pastors have been invited.
Children will be dismissed after the children’s message for their own special program. A covered-dish luncheon in Fellowship Hall follows the service.
Roser Church is a nondenominational Christian Church near the Anna Maria City Pier on Historic Pine Avenue.
