Manatee IT department donates 3,773 pounds of food
MANATEE -- A competition among Manatee County's information technology services staff brought in 3,773 pounds of food to the Food Bank of Manatee County.
The IT department collected the food during the past month as part of the White Out Summer Hunger campaign, according to a release. The department divided into teams and collected non-perishable food items, with the winning team donating nearly 1,700 pounds of food.
Food Bank Director Cindy Sloan said IT's contribution will go a long way to help hungry children this summer.

"We're at that summer slowdown with food coming in and there's lots of empty space on the shelves," Sloan said. "For that group of people contribute nearly 4,000 pounds of food is a real blessing. It's going to make a big difference during the slow summer months."
The IT department held a small pizza party on Friday to celebrate the more than 60 people who contributed, particularly Susan Kulbersh and Lynn Pierce, who organized the competition.
