MTC Law Enforcement Academy graduates seven

BRADENTON -- More than 100 people attended the graduation of seven basic recruits Wednesday from Manatee Technical College's Florida Law Enforcement Academy: Sandy Brenner, Courtney Cruz, Anthony Medina, Mathew Paterno, Austin Reed, class leader Clayton Reese and Jennifer Vila.

Reese earned the Highest Academic Achievement award for highest grade point average.

Reed earned the Top Gun award.

Medina won the "Dale Earnhardt Jr." Best Driver Award.

Reese presented Academy Director Jay Romine with the class plaque.

Chief Scott Tyler of the Palmetto Police Department was keynote speaker.

The graduation makes one eligible to take the state certification examination for law enforcement in Florida.

FHP wolfpack DUI sweep to cover Manatee, Sarasota

SARASOTA -- The Florida Highway Patrol will conduct a massive DUI wolfpack detail from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday to remove impaired drivers from Sarasota and Manatee county roadways.

Troopers will be mobile to maximize visibility and effectiveness in removing impaired drivers from the roadways in Sarasota, Manatee Highlands Hardee and Desoto counties.
