MYAKKA CITY -- The Myakka City Foundation has its monthly meeting 6 p.m. Monday at the fire station on State Road 70 and Verna Road.
The public is invited. Volunteers are needed and there is a secretary position to be filled.
Programs in the works include a back to school drive for five area schools, dental van support at Myakka City Elementary School, Giving Partner Challenge, and Angel Tree and Christmas Party.
Post-Civil War occupation of Bradenton to be reenacted
BRADENTON -- To learn more about what Federal Occupation may have been like following the Civil War, visit Manatee Village Historical Park, 1404 Manatee Ave. E.
Federal troops will set up camp south of the Village from noon-7 p.m. Friday, May 22. Come back on Saturday, May 23, when troops and civilian re-enactors take over Manatee Village Historical Park to demonstrate life in 1865 -- and keep an eye out for fugitive Judah P. Benjamin.
Dakin Dairy to celebrate National Dairy Month
MYAKKA CITY -- Dakin Dairy Farm, 30771 Betts Road, will host their third annual Dairy Day Festival 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 6. June is National Dairy Month.
This year's theme "Milk Does the Body Good" will feature lots of activities, live entertainment, hands-on activities, exhibits, demonstrations, and cheese sampling. Admission is $20 per person, children under two admitted free. Farm tours will be available during the day for an additional $5 fee. Parking is free.
