Vitale continues work for pediatric cancer research

SARASOTA -- The inaugural Dick Vitale Telethon brought local celebrities, guests and athletes to the Suncoast News Network studio in downtown Sarasota where the telethon was held Wednesday. The Hall of Fame ESPN Broadcaster and Lakewood Ranch resident is using community events such as the telethon and the Annual Dick Vitale Gala, held on May 15 this year, as a catalyst to raise money for pediatric cancer research through The V Foundation for Cancer Research.

The foundation was established in 1993 by ESPN and the late Jim Valvano, legendary North Carolina State basketball coach, ESPN commentator and Vitale's good friend.

All proceeds generated from the telethon will to go benefit The V Foundation.
