MANATEE -- Manatee County Attorney Mickey Palmer has a new contract, which includes an $8,843 increase in base salary and life insurance.

The Manatee County Commission approved the new contract Tuesday. Palmer's base annual salary will now be $185,705, a 4.9 percent increase from $176,862.

The other two changes to the contract are $250,000 in life insurance coverage and 7.5 percent of Palmer's base salary will be placed in a deferred-compensation account.

Since being hired as county attorney in 2012, Palmer said he has not received a cost-of-living or merit-based increase. However, if the county commission receives an increase based on a formula, the county attorney does as well.

County Administrator Ed Hunzeker said he's been "doing this a long time and I've yet to figure (the formula) out."

Also, the county commission approved:

Amending the Tourist Development Plan allowing up to $750,000 per year for maintenance of county-owned beach park facilities and up to $200,000 per year for capital improvements.

Four reimbursement agreements for improvements to Anna Maria's Gulf Front Park, Holmes Beach's Grassy Point, Anna Maria Island Historical Museum and Florida Maritime Museum.

Authorizing using tourist development tax proceeds to fund the remodeling, repair and improvement of the four projects and South Florida Museum. Claire Aronson, Manatee County reporter, can be reached at 941-745-7024 or caronson@bradenton.com. Follow her on Twitternote>
