3 hurt, Green Bridge shut down in Bradenton after driver runs red light

BRADENTON -- A three-car crash south of Green Bridge injured three and shut down the bridge for an hour in both directions about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The driver of a black Nissan was westbound on Third Avenue West and ran a red light at the intersection with Ninth Street West, according to Sgt. David Sullivan of the Bradenton Police Department.

The black Nissan hit a northbound gray minivan, which collided with a gray, southbound Nissan, Sullivan said.

The driver of the black Nissan was seriously injured and immobilized as she was placed into an ambulance.

Two minivan occupants were lucid and didn't appear seriously injured but were taken to a hospital. Firefighters had to cut the passenger door off of the minivan to rescue one injured passenger.

The driver of the gray Nissan was uninjured and did not require medical attention.

Several people came running in the accident's aftermath, saying they had heard the screeching and slamming sounds of a crash from inside nearby office buildings.

Police consulted footage from a traffic camera to determine what had happened. The intersection has red-light cameras.
