BRADENTON -- The Manatee County Audubon Society is accepting registrations for the 2015 beginning bird-watching course. The course includes classes on Jan. 19, Jan. 21, Jan. 22, Jan. 28, and Jan. 29.
Each class begins at 6:3O p.m. and lasts until 8:30 p.m. All are held at the Hope Lutheran Church, 4635 26th St.
Included in this course are two full-day field trips, which begin at 7 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24 and Jan. 31. It is anticipated that about 100 bird species will be seen and identified on these two field trips. Fee is $50, each, plus the 2014 MCAS membership fee of $20 per household. Genealogy group offers search programs
BRADENTON -- Manatee Genealogical Society announces a series of five lectures on genealogical research at two local venues: January and May at the Manatee County Central Library auditorium, 1301 Barcarrota Blvd. W., and February, March and April at Bethel Baptist Church, 1805 30th Ave. W. All sessions are held 9:30 a.m. to noon the first Tuesday of each month.
Professional experts and experienced members of the society will present programs:
Jan. 6 - Seeking your Scots-Irish ancestors, Donna Moughty, professional genealogist.
Feb. 3 - Front-page news
(and beyond): Finding archived newspapers, Drew Smith - co-host/producer of The Genealogy Guys podcast. Computer Special Interest Group topic: finding pictures of your ancestors on the Internet
March 3 - Basic military research, Bryan Mulcahy, reference librarian at the Fort Myers-Lee County Library. Using Google for genealogical searches.
April 7 - What's New at FamilySearch.org, Jody Riddick - Family Search consultant and past officer of the Genealogical Society of Sarasota.
May 5 - Ask the experts - A panel of experienced researchers will address your genealogy-related questions. Submit questions in advance to email@example.com or at the meeting.
