15th Multicultural Festival opens Saturday at MTI
BRADENTON -- The Farmworker Career Development Program at Manatee Technical Institute's 15th Annual Multicultural Festival, 6305 State Road 70 E. in Bradenton, is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday with live music and dance performances, food for sale from many countries, activities for children and free health screenings.
The purpose is to celebrate cultural diversity. The 49th anniversary of the Farmworker Career Development Program in Manatee and Sarasota counties also will raise money to establish 94.5 LPFM, the first nonprofit radio station in the area dedicated to education, information and representataion of the Hispanic community.

Rep. Steube schedules legislative-agenda hearing
MANATEE -- The Manatee County legislative delegation has scheduled a public hearing from 8:30 a.m. to noon Friday, Nov. 14, at the Selby Auditorium at the University of South Florida, Sarasota-Manatee, 8350 N. Tamiami Trail. The public may make legislation requests for the 2015 session of the Florida Legislature. Contact the office of state Rep. Greg Steube, R-Sarasota. BPD names Lesko top Female Officer of Week
BRADENTON -- Master Patrol Officer Jenifer Lesko has been named Female Officer of the Week by the Bradenton Police Department.
After graduating from high school in Massillon, Ohio, Lesko joined the U.S. Army, where she served for three years. Lesko attended the University of Hawaii and, in 2003, attended Hillsborough Community College Law Enforcement Academy.
In 2006, Lesko was hired by the Bradenton Police Department and has served in the detective and narcotics divisions. She is a master patrol and field training officer.
