MANATEE -- Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected in west-central and southwest Florida, including the Bradenton area, on Monday, the first day of schools for most children in Manatee County, according to the National Weather Service.
Some locally heavy rainfall could cause localized flooding of low lying and poorly drained area. Also, some of the afternoon storms could produce frequent lightning and gusty winds of 40 to 50 mph, according to the Weather Service.
Forecasters were calling for partly sunny skies, and said there was a 40 percent chance of rain during the day, and 30 percent Monday night. The expected high is 90, and the low, 76.
