BRADENTON — The Pittsburgh Pirates will contribue an additional $2 million to $3 million for renovations at McKechnie Field, increasing the price of a planned renovation to approximately $9.5 million to $10 million, an organization official said.
“Realizing there’s a limited amount of money the city had, the Pirates will move forward paying for additional costs,” said Trevor Gooby, senior director of Florida operations for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Gooby said that coming into the project it was realized that some costs were going to be higher than expected, and that “in order to keep the project at levels that we wanted the Pirates organization has decided to put in the additional dollars.”
The renovations will include fan friendly amenities such as added seating, a tiki bar, and outfield boardwalk.
McKechnie Field, at Ninth Avenue West and 17th Street West, is the spring training home of the Pittsburgh Pirates and regular season home of the Bradenton Marauders, the Pirates Single-A affiliate.
