Manatee commission to consider revised Warner's Bayou boat ramp plan

MANATEE – A revised version of proposed improvements to Warner’s Bayou boat ramp is slated for consideration at an Aug. 21 meeting of the Manatee County Commission.

The latest plans are the combination of staff recommendations and community comments, gathered during three public workshops held over five months, according to Nick Azzara, the county information outreach coordinator.

Local residents, boaters, fishing enthusiasts and environmental supporters aired their opinions about what improvements should be made -- and which ones should not -- at the popular Manatee River boat ramp at the end of 59th Street West off Riverview Boulevard.

The final proposed plan includes the following highlights, according to Azzara:

The parking lot will not be paved; it will remain as it is, with the addition of grassed storm water runoff treatment areas added around the perimeter of the existing parking lots.

Two handicap-accessible, paved vehicular parking spaces will be created: One on the north side of the park and one located adjacent to kayak launches.

No proposed pavilions.

A new restroom building on the north side of the ramp. The restrooms will have time-controlled doors, restricting after-hours access. A new fish cleaning station will replace the old one at its current location, and will not be attached to the restroom.

There are still no plans for vendors at the site.
