Southeast High Principal Catherine Smith resigned Tuesday, the same day she was suspended during an internal investigation by the school district, according to a news release.
Smith, principal at the school since July 2010, on Tuesday was placed on paid administrative leave "as the result of an internal investigation by the Manatee County School District's Office of Professional Standards," the release states.
The resignation takes effect Oct. 31.
School district officials were mum on what sparked the investigation. Under state law, the results of the investigation cannot be released by the school district until Aug. 24, according to the release.
Southeast High Assistant Principal Shane Hall has been named the interim principal at the school.
