Tasty summer treat sales to help guide dog program

BRADEN RIVER -- For the past nine years, students at Braden River Elementary School have raised money to benefit the Southeastern Guide Dog program in Palmetto, which pairs assistance dogs with the visually impaired. One of its fundraising methods is a weeklong popsicle sale called "Pops for Pups."

On Monday, fifth-grade students at Braden River began selling 1,400 popsicles. On Thursday, the sale ended and officially sold out, raising roughly $600 for the program.

In the past nine years, the school has donated more than $20,000 to the program, said fifth-grade teacher Robert Gorley.

This morning, fifth-grade students will participate in a walk-a-thon beginning at the school at 9 a.m. to help raise additional funds. For information on the guide dog program, visit www.guidedogs.org.
