The blurred images of Palmetto High School football players flow across the frame during a recent practice. Slow shutter speeds were little match for the whirlwind season that found two area teams go deep into the postseason. Photographing gridiron battles is a challenge. Low light and locating the ball in a mass of players is always an obstacle, and fast shutter speeds are the norm. Looking for something different led me to a less-traveled road: slow shutter speeds. It might not be the sharpest photo out there, but it did capture the fluid motion of the athletes and offered a different perspective of the action. After all, spring practice is only several months away and we get to do it all over again.
