11/28 GALLERY: Nature’s clean-up crew

The sun shines through the branches of a dead tree, the perch of several black vultures off State Road 64. The large birds often are seen circling together in the sky, soaring with little effort in thermals, looking for their next meal of dead carcasses or other remains. As you read this there is probably a carcass not far away, the remains of a holiday fest, like a turkey that has been picked to the bone. We may not hover high above to find our next meal and our lack of wings keep us on the ground, but we all look forward to swooping down on leftovers.
