A group of merchants, non-profits and other downtown Bradenton organizations are working together to collect items for the needy this winter.
The charity drive, led by Cork’s Cigar Bar and Lucky Dogs restaurant, seeks coats, blankets and “outerwear” for dogs of all sizes to distribute to local families and people in need, especially during the record low temperatures across Florida.
Several locations have offered to be dropoff points during their regular business hours, including Lucky Dogs, 1207 3rd Ave. W.; ArtCenter Manatee, 209 9th St. W.; Westminster Courtyard, 222 Old Main St.; Bradenton Fire Department Station 1 (Gene Gallo Fire Station), 1010 9th Ave. W.; Bradenton City Hall, 101 Old Main St.; Om Gaia, 312 Old Main St.; and First Presbyterian Church, 1402 Manatee Ave. W.
The charity drive will culminate with a New Year’s Eve celebration on Old Main Street with music on two stages, a ball drop near the Manatee Avenue stage vendors and other festivities. Local band Shinola will appear on the main stage. Participating sponsors include Stella Artois and Rocket Angel Italian Greyhound Rescue; the Old Main Street Merchants Association is organizing the event.
