Crews working to fix Bayshore on the Lake elevator

MANATEE — Crews from Schindler Elevator Corp. began work Wednesday afternoon to repair the broken elevator at Building H of the Bayshore on the Lake Condominium complex.

Kathy Rucki, a spokeswoman for the elevator maintenance firm, said the part needed to fix the elevator was delivered early Wednesday and delivered to the site.

Rucki said the company hopes the elevator will be fixed Wednesday or Thursday.

Bayshore on the Lake, just off 38th Avenue West, is a 55-and-older community.

The elevator has been out of order since Jan. 30, when a 28-year-old pump failed. That concerned several elderly residents, who worried they would not be able to navigate stairs.

On Tuesday, resident Joyce Morrison was carried down four flights of stairs in her wheelchair by her husband and some friends so she could attend a doctor’s appointment. The Manatee County fire and EMS department’s helped her get back up to her condo after the appointment.

Early Wednesday, an inspector from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation visited the site and confirmed the reason the elevator was not working, according to department spokeswoman Alexis Lambert.
