MANATEE — Manatee County’s unemployment rate in December dropped slightly to 12.7 percent while Florida’s overall rate rose slightly to 11.8 percent.

Labor statistics released this morning by the state showed Sarasota County unemployment increased slightly in December to 12.4 percent, up from 12.3 percent in November.

Manatee County’s rate in November was originally reported at 12.9 percent but has been adjusted to 13 percent, painting a continuing dismal picture for area job seekers.

Industries statewide losing the most jobs continue to be construction, trade, transportation and utilities as well as professional and business services.
