GoFundMe fundraiser seeks to create Myakka City memorial for Commissioner Felts
A fundraising campaign has been started in commemoration of the late Manatee County Commissioner Carol Ann Felts, following her death on Tuesday.
A GoFundMe launched Wednesday to raise funds for a dedicated plaque in Felts’ name and a memorial marker in Myakka City. The organizer said it will include an engraved brass photo of the late commissioner.
Felts, a Myakka City resident, was passionate about “standing up for Myakka and its people,” according to the GoFundMe dedicated to her. Her loss “leaves a void in our community,” state Sen. Jim Boyd said.
“This tribute will serve as a lasting reminder of her dedication, kindness, and the positive impact she had on our community,” the GoFundMe organized by David Roberts says. “Carol always had the people’s back and fought hard to protect our way of life, and we want to ensure her memory lives on for generations to come.”
In addition to this GoFundMe’s commemoration of Felts, Manatee County Commissioner Amanda Ballard is requesting the board name a portion of Myakka City’s Crane Park after Felts.
Felts started her first term in public office in 2024 and represented over 77,000 residents in Myakka City, Parrish and parts of Ellenton and Palmetto.
“She loved nature, her garden and her horses, and she brought that same care and passion to her work as District 1 County Commissioner in Manatee County,” the GoFundMe says.
The GoFundMe describes Felts as a “kind soul who touched the lives of everyone she met.”
As of Friday afternoon, the GoFundMe has raised about $1,600 of its $3,500 goal.
“Please let’s support Carol’s legacy by honoring her for her unwavering commitment to Myakka and its people,” the GoFundMe says.
