Students from Manatee School For the Arts will once again collect food for the hungry and needy at Halloween time.
The school’s fourth annual Halloween Food Drive, called “Food for the Souls,” is scheduled 6-9 p.m. Friday at Manatee School For the Arts, 700 Haben Blvd., Palmetto.
“Our goal is to raise at least 2,500 non-perishable items to donate to the hungry in our community for the holidays,” said Ava Irizarry, a captain of Manatee School For the Arts’ “Action Team” which is a mix of 150 ninth- through 12-graders who take on service projects like “Food for the Souls” to give back to the community.
During “Food for the Souls,” which is the school’s kickoff for the Mayor’s Feed the Hungry project, members of the public are asked to bring one non-perishable item, which is the entrance fee, Irizarry said.
Each additional item donated will be worth two tickets to play games and win prizes, Irizarry added.
People can also donate a dollar to receive two tickets.
