Community service, giving attitude earn Julie Parker of Lakewood Ranch firm May Woman of the Month honors

BRADENTON -- She always goes the extra mile.

That's how Julie Parker is spoken of by members of her professional networking organization, Successful Women Aligning Together.

Parker, owner of the Parker Law Group in Lakewood Ranch, has been named "Woman of the Month" for May by SWAT's Bradenton chapter.

Parker is a lawyer, wife, mother of a 10-year-old daughter with special needs, and a community leader.

She's said she's honored to have been selected "Woman of the Month." She said she finds satisfaction working with the organization with seven chapters throughout Manatee and Sarasota counties.

"I can't describe the feeling that I have for my SWAT sisters. The organization is extremely fulfilling, and personally as well."

One of 277 SWAT members, Parker is active in the community and credits charitable involvement as the key for being a standout SWAT member. She sat on the board of directors for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County, mentored students in the Take Stock in Children program, and recently she pitched in at the last minute to form a team for April's American Cancer Society Relay For Life in Lakewood Ranch.

"Several other teams were

formed by SWAT members earlier, but I rallied some troops and some people from outside of SWAT from my other networking groups," Parker said. "SWAT monies accounted for 52 percent of the money raised for the Relay, which was pretty amazing."

SWAT members can attend several luncheon networking meetings a month in Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, Manasota, St. Petersburg, Venice, Parrish and Ana Maria Island. The group often meets outside the business setting, too.

"SWAT is a little unique. We're like a sisterhood, a sorority. We keep in touch and help each other in personal growth and development. It's amazing the love and care we have for each other," said CEO Robyn Spirtas.

The organization is seeking to establish two new chapters, including one in Hillsborough County.
