BRADENTON -- Toale Brothers Funeral Home will host a free event for veterans and their families to offer information on benefits and long term care.

The Jan. 28 event will begin at 1 p.m. at 912 53rd Ave. W. Featured speakers include Lee Washington of the Manatee County Veterans Service office, Traci Adams from Manatee County Human Services, Mary Foreman, a local CPA and Sue Fox, Alzheimers Association program specialist.

The event will begin at 1 p.m. with a presentation by the Manatee High School Color Guard.

Manatee County Clerk's Office wins diversity award

BRADENTON -- The Sarasota-Manatee Human Resources Association gave its Alltrust Diversity Award to the Manatee County Clerk's Office. The award is given to association members and their organization who have demonstrated an appreciation for workforce diversity and who have successfully created an inclusive work environment.

R.B. "Chips" Shore was recognized for his efforts to promote diversity and inclusion, including an active approach to achieve diversity through hiring and promoting, for hiring more veterans, and for establishing interest-based committees that allow for participation from all staff members.

Chamber to celebrate 2014 achievements

LONGBOAT KEY -- The 56th annual awards luncheon for the Longboat Key Chamber of Commerce will celebrate achievements made in 2014.

The luncheon will be held at Amore by Andrea, 555 Bay Isles Parkway, Longboat Key, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Jan. 29

Outgoing ChairwomYvonne Schloss,of Sunglass Express Optical will review accomplishments during her term. The incoming chairman, Jeff Mayers, of The Resort at the Longboat Key Club, will share his goals for 2015.

The winners of the Norm Mallard Ambassador of the Year Award, Eager Beaver Award, Chairman's Award, Ed Moran Memorial Award and the Chamber Member of the Year Award will be announced.

Panama City adds daily flights to Tampa, Orlando

WEST BAY -- Silver Airways will begin offering daily flights from Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport to Tampa and Orlando.

The airlines announced that it will offer twice-daily flights to Orlando International Airport and once-a-day flights to Tampa International Airport on March 19. The airport is located in West Bay, just north of Panama City Beach.
