BRADENTON -- A fan favorite brewery and restaurant from Sarasota's Rosemary District is looking to add a location in downtown Bradenton.
Darwin's on 4th is in the midst of a due diligence period to see whether a new restaurant in downtown will make money, said Dave Gustafson, executive director of the Bradenton Downtown Development Authority.
"The mayor and I met with them numerous times, and they are very, very optimistic about not relocating from Sarasota, but adding an additional facility up here in Bradenton," Gustafson said. A location has not been announced.
The restaurant is owned by chef Darwin Santa Maria and features Peruvian dishes and tapas. It also brews its own beer on-site. Darwin's, 1525 Fourth St., Sarasota, opened in early 2012. Santa Maria founded Selva Grill in Sarasota. The chef declined interview requests with the media.
"They're very interested in the Bradenton area because of what they're considering doing, along with the good press we're receiving and the national recognition of downtown," Gustafson said.
The restaurant bills itself as "Urban Street Food & Brewery." The menu includes ceviche, grilled duck breast, lamb loin, skirt steak, Amazonian spiced pork and poached lobster tacos that include truffles.
Darwin's would be the third microbrewery in downtown Bradenton, along with the pending openings this fall of Motorworks Brewing at 1014 Ninth St. W. in the Village of the Arts and The Little Giant Brewery, 301 Seventh St. E.
