SRQ police chief cleared by state of any wrong doing

MANATEE - The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has notified airport officials that SRQ Police Chief Jim Carlino has been cleared of any violations following a brief state review.

FDLE was investigating whether Carlino violated any state procedures by helping complete his own law enforcement certification three months after he was hired by SRQ in April 2008.

But because Carlino was hired solely as an administrator, serving without a gun or arrest power until FDLE certification was in hand, he remained in full compliance of state rules, the agency said.

An alleged incident involving some of Carlino's neighbors at his former Manatee home also caused the police official to move, closing on the sale of his home earlier this year.

"The bottom line is this has been properly vetted and nothing has been found," Airporty Authority board member Henry Rodriguez said. "It's time to move on."
