MANATEE - A small powerboat manufacturer in Manatee County has garnered a little national attention.
Hann Powerboats was the only Florida firm and one of just eight companies nationwide recognized by the U.S. Department of Commerce in the 2011 Annual Report produced by the agency’s trade promotion arm.
Led by Hann’s recent $400,000 sale of military-style powerboats to a Nigerian company, the local manufacturer was featured by the U.S. Department of Commerce for its exports, a segment of the business that has thrived the last two years.
“We have some really good things happening,” owner Russell Hann said. “We have some momentum now.”
Hann Powerboats relocated to 18th Street East in Southern Manatee County two years ago after previous stints in Destin and Plant City.
The company specializes in large military-style boats engineered to go extremely fast while using fuel efficiently. Most its boats are sold to the government, including the The U.S. Air Force, Navy, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, municipal authorities and some private corporations.
