MANATEE - Unemployment for Manatee County and the state dropped in October, a development state jobs officials called “encouraging” and “a move in the right direction.”
Florida as a whole posted an unemployment rate of 10.3 percent, the lowest rate in 28 months and 0.3 percentage points less than September’s rate. Manatee County’s rate dropped to 10.4 percent from September’s adjusted 11 percent rate.
Both rates are significantly lower than figures for a year ago, when 11.8 percent of Floridians and 12.1 percent of Manatee County residents were documented as unemployed. Sarasota County showed a similar decrease in October, to 10.3 percent from 11 percent in September and 12 percent a year ago.
