MANATEE - Manatee's unemployment rate dropped to 10.9 percent in September from 11.4 percent in August, data released today shows.
Unemployment for September was 10.6 percent statewide, a drop of 1 percent.
Sarasota's rate went up slightly to 10.9 percent from 10.8 percent in August.
Manatee's seasonally nonadjusted numbers have dropped significantly from the 12.7 percent in September 2010.
Gov. Rick Scott, in a conference call from Brazil where he is on a trade mission, said the numbers represent a gain of 93,500 jobs since Sept. 2010.
The unemployment rate is "down 1.3 percentage points since I took office," Scott said . "This puts our unemployment rates over the last five months at the lowest in two years while the national unemployment rate has gone up point-one percentage point during the same time period. "
Florida has gained 110,300 private sector jobs, a net gain of 23,300 jobs in September and a total net gain of 92,400 jobs since January.
