Sanborn buys land near airport

MANATEE -- Sanborn Entertainment LLC, whose Sanborn Studios recently opened in Lakewood Ranch, has purchased property near Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport for $525,000. The seller, Australia-based JDPP I LLC, is managed by Justin Liberman. The company financed the transaction by providing Sanborn with a $800,000 loan.

Sanborn’s television program about competing news helicopters titled “Miami 24/7” is listed as in “pre-production” on the studio’s website. Ken Sanborn and Karinne Behr are listed as the show’s producers. Ken Sanborn is also listed as executive producer, a title formerly held by Behr’s brother, Philippe Martinez.

Snow expected on Bridge Street Saturday

ANNA MARIA -- Bridge Street will be changed into a Winter Wonderland on Saturday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. with snow flakes, Santa Claus, holiday music and gift ideas.

The Bridge Street Merchants will be hosting the Christmas on Bridge Street Celebration with a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, live music with the Island Rockers, a Christmas around the World presentation by Rowlett Magnet Elementary, caroling by area students, a special appearance by Mike Sales and the musical styling’s of DJ Tom Barrons.

Gift baskets, holiday wreaths and other items will be raffled off to benefit the Manatee County Food Bank and the Roser Memorial Community Church Food Bank. A special children’s gift bazaar will also take place where area school kids will sell handmade crafts, baked goods and holiday items. Merchants will be collecting canned goods for the area food banks. For every five food items people bring, they will receive one Bridge Street Wooden Nickel which is valid at participating Bridge Street shops. There will also be a collection for Toys for Tots. Any new unwrapped toy will be collected by the Marines to distribute to local families. The Cortez Yacht Club Boat will also be hosting their annual Lighted Boat Parade on the Bridge Street Pier at dusk.

Feng Shui expert, artist will give presentation

ANNA MARIA -- Cheryl Grace, a Ringling College of Art and Design staff member and a professional Feng Shui consultant and watercolor artist, will present an overview of Feng Shui home decor and its relationship to art Jan. 8 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Dancing Crane Gallery on Anna Maria Island.

Classes in mindfulness offered Jan. 13

SARASOTA -- The Sarasota Mindfulness Institute is offering an eight-week class, “Mindfulness and Cognitive Tools for Stress Reduction, beginning Jan. 13. The class meets every Thursday from 6-8:30 p.m. at 630 S. Orange Ave.
