Report: State job market will take years to recover

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - A new report says Florida's job market will take years to rebuild.

A Tallahassee-based think tank said Wednesday that the 900,000 non-farm jobs lost in Florida over the past three years wouldn't be restored until at least late in 2014.

The Center for Fiscal and Economic Policy said that even if Florida employment grows at the previous record rate of about 210,000 jobs per year, it would take nearly five years to restore the jobs that have been lost since March 2007.

Florida's 12.2 percent unemployment rate in Florida is the highest since the state began keeping count 40 years ago, a percentage that represents more than 1.1 million looking for work in the Sunshine State.
