New Bollettieri therapy center bound for Lakewood Ranch

LAKEWOOD RANCH — Bollettieri Sports Therapy Center at IMG Academies in West Bradenton has for the past 13 years treated world-class athletes such as Maria Sharapova, Taylor Dent and Nicole Vaidisova.

What is sometimes not as well known is that the center also treats anonymous 70-year-old golfers, teens destined to never compete in an athletic arena after high school and others.

Starting in early June, there will be a second Bollettieri Sports Therapy Center, this one at Lakewood Ranch. The new facility will offer treatment to anyone from famous athletes to the average senior on Medicare, said owner Jay Frye.

“You don’t have to be a pro to be treated like one,” Frye said.

The new center will be located in a 2,500-square-feet space in Medical Office Building No. 1, the first building constructed on the campus of Lakewood Ranch Medical Center.

Chiropractic and physical therapy as well as traditional medicine will be offered.

Bob Paisie, doctor of physical therapy, will oversee operations at the Ranch. He has more than 20 years of clinical experience in sports rehabilitation. Elizabeth Budden, also a doctor of physical therapy, will specialize in upper extremity rehab and splinting.

Lakewood Ranch Medical Center Chief Executive Officer Jim Wilson said in a press release that he’s thrilled to have the prestigious Bollettieri name linked with the medical center. “The partnership will enable us to continue to meet the growing needs of the East County community,” Wilson said.

Frye said he plans to have working relationships with East Manatee schools, golf courses and fitness centers.

“Hopefully some of the businesses will use us for muscular skeletal injuries and workers compensation,” Frye said. “We’ll be seeing Medicare patients.”

He noted that Bollettieri Sports Therapy Center already has a working relationship with Coastal Orthopedics and Pain Management, which last week opened its East Surgery Center at Lakewood Ranch.

“We refer a lot of our athletes over there,” Frye said.

The East Surgery Center will see all of its patients on an out-patient basis.

In addition to athletes from IMG Academies, East Surgery Center also provides care for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Pittsburgh Pirates and U.S. Soccer.
