Mirabella at Village Green was recognized on Thursday for its sustainability.
The United States Green Building Council awarded the first 70 completed and occupied homes in the 55-plus adult community with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Platinum certification.
Platinum is the highest level of certification, with Mirabella among the few residential communities across the country to receive the designation.
During the presentation, certificates were presented to homeowners, and Mirabella officials announced the addition of solar panels to the community’s amenity center.
Marshall Gobuty, the president and developer of Mirabella, said he was pleased to see that the work toward sustainability has not gone without recognition.
“This is the result of two years of work, careful planning and underscores our commitment to the environment,” Gobuty said. “We set out to not only build the highest-quality homes in their category in the region, but also pledged to be energy efficient and environmentally friendly all across our active adult community.”
According to the USGBC website, LEED is the most widely used and recognized third-party verification for green buildings. To receive the certification, a structure must earn points across five varying categories of green design: sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, and indoor environmental quality.
Depending on the number of points accrued, a correlating level of certification is assigned. The four levels of LEED certification are certified, silver, gold and platinum.
“Mirabella has brought the mission of the USGBC and the LEED Platinum program to Florida,” said Peggy Christ, a board member of the Florida Green Building Coalition and the USGBC.
In addition to the 70 homes that were awarded certification on Thursday, 37 homes are under construction with another 53 lots remaining. Mirabella plans to have all 90 of those properties meet certifications once completed, with the goal of keeping 100 percent of the homes certified.
