Rain showers moved onshore early this morning from the Gulf of Mexico, covering parts of the Tampa Bay area.
According to Bay News 9 meteorologist Juli Marquez, showers developed ahead of a cold front approaching the area. Rain moved into the northern part of the Bay area, soaking Citrus, Hernando and parts of Pasco today.
Rain is expected throughout the day with the highest chances in those counties.
Some showers are expected in Pinellas, Hillsborough and Manatee, although the chances are a bit lower in those areas.
Temperatures will rise from the low 60s to the mid 70s today.
The weekend will be windy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms and cooler weather on Sunday.
"Saturday will be warm and windy with a slight chance of rain,'' Marquez said. "A cold front moves through our area Sunday with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning and early afternoon. It will be windy and turning cooler Sunday afternoon."
