BRADENTON -- The Manatee Glens mental health hospital is sponsoring a rally in downtown Bradenton to protest a proposed cut in spending for mental health and addictions treatment.
The $93 million in cuts would affect treatment of 3,500 patients in Manatee and tens of thousands more statewide, according to Manatee Glens. The cuts are included in a budget proposal the Florida Senate will consider Wednesday.
The rally is a modified flash mob where participants will walk up Sixth Avenue West from Manatee Glens at 391 Sixth Ave. W. to the Manatee County courthouse starting at noon, protest for 30 minutes and then walk back up Manatee Avenue West to Manatee Glens.
