MIAMI -- Authorities have charged a Miami International Airport TSA worker with grand theft after he allegedly stole items from passengers’ luggage.
The Miami Herald reported Michael Pujol was arrested after an iPad he allegedly stole was traced to a Craigslist sale.
Detectives say Pujol stuffed goods from passengers’ luggage into a hidden pocket in his work jacket. Detectives say the pocket was large enough to conceal a laptop.
Pujol’s wife has also been arrested. In addition to grand theft, they have been charged with dealing in stolen property.
Pujol has been suspended from duty. The couple was released Friday on bond.
Deputies arrest Tampa man after truck chase
TAMPA -- A Tampa man is under arrest after authorities say he stole a 25-foot box truck and led deputies on a chase that lasted more than an hour.
Johnny Ray May has been charged with aggravated battery and assault on a law enforcement officer, grand theft and burglary.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office says the manager of Nortrax John Deere Forestry Equipment reported a truck stolen at about 9 p.m. Saturday.
A deputy spotted the truck five minutes later and began following it. Deputies were able to stop the truck, but the driver then accelerated forward, crashing into a patrol car and nearly hitting a deputy a short time later.
The pursuit then began again. Deputies deflated the truck’s tires and the vehicle finally stopped after reaching a dirt road.
Boy, 4, drowns in neighbor’s pool in Orange County
ORLANDO -- Authorities say a 4-year-old boy reported missing by his mother drowned in a neighbor’s swimming pool.
The Orlando Sentinel reported that Orange County deputies were in Pine Hills on an unrelated call late Sunday morning when the boy’s mother approached them to say he was missing.
Sheriff’s Lt. Todd Gardiner says a deputy sheriff soon found the boy face-down in a neighbor’s pool. Deputies attempted CPR on the boy, who was transported by rescue crews to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Gardiner said criminal charges are pending.
Elderly woman dies after fire at condominium
DANIA BEACH -- A 77-year-old woman has died after a condo fire in South Florida.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office says firefighters rescued the woman from her unit at the six-story Meadowbrook Lake condominium early Sunday.
She was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition with burns over 60 percent of her body.
She died shortly after 9 a.m.
No one else in the building was injured.
Officials are investigating the cause of the fire but do not believe foul play was involved.
The name of the elderly woman who died has not been released.
Woman denied bond in infant kidnapping
WEST PALM BEACH -- A Florida woman accused of abducting an infant boy from his mother’s West Palm Beach Home has been denied bond.
Latonia Alvin-Williams has been charged with false imprisonment and interference with custody. Police say she confessed to kidnapping Mar’Quan Johnson Friday while his mother was showering.
The infant was found less than five hours later.
The Palm Beach Posts reported Judge Ted Booras denied Alvin-Williams bond at a court hearing Saturday. He noted that kidnapping is a felony punishable by life in prison.
The baby’s grandmother was at the hearing and praised the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office for quickly finding the child. She said the infant is healthy and doing well following the ordeal.
