Motorcyclist killed in fiery crash on U.S. 41 at I-275

MANATEE -- A motorcyclist was killed after being struck by a van on the northbound lanes of U.S. 41 on Wednesday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

At about 11:45 a.m., a silver van was getting off the northbound exit of Interstate 275 and merging onto U.S. 41 when it struck a motorcyclist heading north on the left lane.

The van and motorcycle were engulfed in flames, trooper John McGrede said. The motorcyclist was ejected several feet from the crash.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released pending notification of family.

The driver and passenger in the van, who were visiting from New York, were not injured.

On Wednesday, the motorcyclist’s mangled Suzuki was under the partially burnt van.

Charges against the driver are pending, McGrede said.
