EAST MANATEE -- A two-vehicle collision Sunday night on State Road 64 East and Rye Road claimed the life of an 18-year-old Bradenton man, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The driver of a 2010 Nissan, which had been stopped on Rye Road at the stop sign about 9:25 p.m., pulled onto S.R. 64 into the path of an approaching 1994 Chevrolet pickup, an FHP report said.
The Nissan struck the pickup in the side, which caused the pickup to rotate and then overturn several times, ejecting the driver and two passengers, before coming to rest on its roof, the FHP said.
An 18-year-old passenger in the pickup, Brett D. Wagner, died of his injuries at Manatee Memorial Hospital. The 18-year-old driver was taken to Blake Medical Center with critical injuries. A 24-year-old passenger in the pickup was was taken to Manatee Memorial with minor injuries.
A passenger in the Nissan suffered serious injuries and was taken to Blake Medical Center. The Nissan's driver suffered minor injuries and was charged with violation of right of way from a stop sign.
