2 people hurt in I-75 accident in Sarasota County

SARASOTA -- Two people were hurt when the vehicle they were riding in collided with two other vehicles on Interstate 75 in Sarasota County and rolled over several times, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The accident happened in the southbound lanes near Bee Ridge Road.

The driver of 2012 Kia, a 20-year-old Dunedin woman, lost control of her vehicle and struck two other cars in front of her. The Kia overturned several times before coming to rest upright.

The driver's injuries were described as critical, and injuries suffered by her passenger, a 24-year-old Port Charlotte man were described as serious, according to FHP.

At one point after the crash, the southbound lanes of traffic were closed so that a medical helicopter could land at the scene.
