BRADENTON -- The Manatee County Commission on Monday gave final approval to a new redistricting plan in a 6-1 vote.
Commissioner Robin DiSabatino, who had argued that her district could be more effectively squared off along geographical lines, was the lone vote against the new map, known as "Plan D."
The county is one of many governmental bodies redrawing its district lines in accordance with the results of the 2010 census. The point of redistricting is to ensure that each district has approximately the same number of voters.
The Manatee County School Board has tentatively approved the same plan and has voted to adopt the same district lines as the county commission's, but it still must take a final vote on Plan D.
Officials said a final vote is slated for next month.
