ST. PETERSBURG -- A St. Petersburg couple accused of allowing two young boys to smoke synthetic marijuana are being held in jail on child abuse charges.
Jail records show 37-year-old Douglas Staker and 24-year-old Stephanie Nelson were being held Tuesday in the Pinellas County Jail on $20,000 bond each. They were arrested Monday on two counts of felony child abuse. It wasn’t immediately known if either has an attorney.
A sheriff’s office report says the boys-- ages 9 and 10 -- smoked the drug about 20 times in the past month in front of Staker and Nelson, who had been taking care of the boys at the time.
Nelson admitted to the accusations, but Staker denied the allegations.
