MANATEE -- A 55-year-old Manatee man was stunned Thursday morning after a foot chase, the sheriff’s office reports.
Michael Cheaves was pulled over at about 2 a.m. in the 200 block of 22nd Street East for driving a pickup truck without a tag light, a media release said. Upon stopping, Cheaves fled and a foot pursuit ensued.. Cheaves was directed to stop multiple times, the release said, but he failed to comply with orders, causing the deputy to deploy his stun gun with one probe striking Cheaves in the small of the back.
The other probe got hung up in his sweatshirt, causing the stun gun to not deploy properly, the release said.
Cheaves surrendered immediately upon hearing the weapon deploy, the release said. Nobody was injured during the incident.
