BRADENTON -- A Manatee County murder suspect will have to wait for his trial.
A judge delayed the case Tuesday for Delmer Smith, who is accused of killing Kathleen Briles, the wife of a well-known doctor in Palmetto.
Smith, who was in the courtroom Tuesday, has other charges to face from several break-ins in Sarasota and Manatee counties. He will face trial for those before the murder case.
Members of the Briles family attended Tuesday's hearing.
"I think Delmer Smith is a sociopath. I don’t think he has any feelings of guilt or remorse,'' said the husband of Kathleen Briles, Dr. James Briles. "He doesn’t care about anyone but himself."
Smith's first trial is scheduled Dec. 5 on robbery charges in Sarasota.
His trial in the Briles murder is now scheduled for July.
