MANATEE -- A 53-year-old man was killed while helping load a ship at Port Manatee, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
About 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dalvin Ray Roberts, who was employed by Labor Ready, lost his footing and fell about 25 feet down a shaft between the load and the wall of the ship, according to a news release.
Responding paramedics pronounced Roberts dead.
The sheriff's office said there were no signs of foul play and that the death appeared accidental.
The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration was also investigating the death, according to the sheriff's office.
