MANATEE — A woman employed to provide care for an 85-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday after it was learned she pawned several pieces of gold jewelry, valued at $9,000, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office reports.
Keshia Staten, 23, was employed by Home Instead to provide care for the victim at her home in the 4600 block of La Jolla Drive, Bradenton.
When she left work on March 29 the victim became aware of her missing items, the report said.
A pawn shop search uncovered eight pieces of jewelry that were sold on March 29 for $4,680, the report said. Staten was then contacted and reported to the sheriff’s office Tuesday where she was read her rights and admitted to taking the jewelry.
Staten was charged with dealing in stolen property and was released from Manatee County jail on a $1,000 bond.
