PALMETTO -- A 1-year old was transferred to All Children's Hospital for a mandatory 24-hour observation period Wednesday after a near drowning incident at home about 8:25 p.m., according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
The child was playing at home inside his residence in the 400 block of 23rd St. E., while his mother was cooking a meal, according to a sheriff's report.
Within five minutes of when the child was last observed, the father came home and found the rear sliding glass door partially opened. The door was closed earlier, and it is unknown how it got opened.
The father went outside and found the child face down in a partially filled bucket. He immediately pulled the child out of the bucket. The child was not breathing. The father was able to revive the child and transported him to the hospital.
Wednesday night, the child was conscious, alert, and appeared to be OK.
Based on all information available, this incident appears to be accidental in nature, the sheriff's report said.
